Legal Resources
FindLaw - www.findlaw.com - (go to Legal Subjects, then Property Law) - This web site is enormous, a real plethora of resources. Start off by following our suggested link to the property law section and find legal resources of use to the real estate community. There are numerous links to databases, statistics, newsgroups, government documents, government agencies, documents and newsletters and software. Here you will find reference material for businesses, students, lawyers and the general public. Make immediate use of their search engine; otherwise, you could spend an hour browsing through the aisles of this huge online warehouse of information.

Martindale-Hubbell's Lawyers.com - www.lawyers.com - This well-organized site is the place to visit before hiring an attorney or seeking legal advice. After you search for a lawyer by location and/or specialty, find answers to commonly asked questions or leave a message on one of their several message boards. Get advice on how to choose an attorney, basic information on various areas of law and legal resources. Be sure to browse through their question and answer archive: it is filled with commonly asked questions and each is answered by a practicing attorney. It’s no wonder it’s one of Yahoo’s 50 “Most Incredibly Useful Sites.”

FreeAdvice - www.freeadvice.com - This is a legal site for businesses and the general public that provides basic information on a variety of legal topics. The real estate law section includes the following topics: agricultural, buy/sell a home, commercial real estate, condemnation, construction, landlord/tenant, mortgage and zoning. Some of our community members may find the information a bit elementary, but it's thorough.

Landlord.com - www.landlord.com - Another sizeable site. Particularly interesting are the Landlord Law and Tenant Screening pages; if you can't find your answer, try Ask the Expert. See also: the Rent Collection and Prop Mgr Directory pages. Lots of free content, some of which requires registration; survey questions sprinkled throughout indicate there may be a cost for these services in the future.

Legal Intelligence - www.legal-intelligence.net - Online resource for obtaining tax, deed and mortgage records by state and for performing tenant screenings.

Construction Weblinks - www.constructionweblinks.com - Another portal, organized by a law firm, with a legal bent in its offerings. This site is rich with content. For example, State Agencies gives you access to licensing boards and other relevant departments. Full Text of Laws provides the text of statutes and rules. There are many organizations listed as well. Use the Site Search and Site Map buttons in the upper right corner of every page. Find How to Use This Site / FAQs in the Site Map for a quick introduction to the site.
